I researched Katy Perry to get ideas of what style she used in her videos. The characters she used were only girls and it was quite upbeat so it would have appealed to girls and the costumes were basically underwear which means it also would have also appealed to boys. When I watched this video I felt that Katy Perry was being promoted as quite provocative and sexual - this is how she entered the music scene as she wasn't really known before this song hit the charts.
